The Lincoln County Asthma Education and Prevention Program is funded through a grant from the Oregon Asthma Program. A Registered Nurse Asthma Health Educator works with schools, voluntary health organizations, health professionals, hospitals, health clinics, and the public. The goals of the program are to increase the quality of life for individuals and families who live with asthma, increase public awareness of asthma, and increase the quality of asthma care in Lincoln County. Working toward these goals, we:

	Promote education to increase the awareness that asthma is a serious, but treatable condition that can be controlled, and sometimes, prevented
	Provide education to increase recognition of the symptoms of asthma and how to get proper treatment while promoting the importance of self-management
	Educate to increase awareness of available resources and services in Lincoln County for people affected with asthma
	Establish partnerships with various organizations to promote quality asthma care
	Serve as a resource for schools to affect policy for students with asthma, and to reduce the number of asthma triggers in and around schools
	Work to increase public awareness of the importance of exposure to second hand smoke as a cause of asthma in children and a trigger for increased asthma symptoms in all ages
	Serve as a resource for smoking cessation opportunities to decrease the prevalence of second hand smoke and improve indoor air quality for all
	Train leaders and implement education programs such as Open Airways for Schools, Tools for Schools, No On Tobacco, and Fresh Air For Little Noses in Lincoln County Schools and Day Care settings
